What surprised me was not the electricity consumption though. I was surprised by the price: $285. This includes 256MB RAM (no expansion available) and a 40GB hard drive. Gentoo Linux is preloaded. The Fit PC website says that you can install Windows XP from a CD. But, I’m not so sure that is a good idea with just 256MB RAM. That said, I have an old HP notebook with a 30GB drive and 256MB RAM that runs Windows XP Pro SP2 acceptably well. I wouldn’t recommend this configuration though.

Fit-PC sounds like a good solution for a web terminal that is on all the time. The low power consumption would reduce the guilt of leaving it on 24×7.
